The PGA Tour returns to the mainland this week, after two events in Hawaii, with World No. 1 Jon Rahm and defending FedEx Cup champ Patrick Cantlay competing at The American Express in La Quinta, Calif. Cantlay will be looking to avenge his 2021 second-place finish after Si Woo Kim, who made two birdies on the final three holes to win by one after Cantlay shot a closing 61.

Unlike last year, this iteration of The American Express will utilize three courses: PGA West (Pete Dye Stadium Course), La Quinta Country Club and PGA West (Nicklaus Tournament Course). The pro-am portion of the event is also set to return after being scrubbed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kim, Cantlay and Rahm also will be joined by Phil Mickelson, Rickie Fowler and Will Zalatoris among the notables competing in the California desert. It is the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year’s first event of 2022. Cameron Champ is also returning after missing the Sentry Tournament of Champions when he tested positive for COVID. Champ hasn't played since October, having taken the last couple months of 2021 off to left an injured left wrist heal.

The winner will receive 500 FedEx Cup points and a $1.368 million share of the $7.6 million purse.
