Boo Weekley drives to PGA Tour Champions event in a U-Haul, remains one of golf's most interesting characters
Golf fans haven't heard much from Boo Weekley lately—and that's a shame.
From fighting an orangutan to working as a hydroblaster for a chemical company to doing that riding-the-bull dance at the 2008 Ryder Cup, the three-time PGA Tour winner is one of the game's greatest characters. And this week he was riding something else even more unusual. A U-Haul.
After finishing T-43 at the Senior PGA Championship in Michigan, Weekley needed a rental car to drive to Iowa for this week's PGA Tour Champions event, the Principal Charity Classic. But when none were available, the 50-year-old had to settle for the moving truck.
This will be Weekley's 10th senior tour start of 2024 with a T-12 at the Invited Celebrity Classic last month being his best finish.
According to Google Maps, that's about a six-and-a-half hour drive. But Boo summed it up in perfect Boo fashion:
"We got to thinking outside the box and we ended up in the box, a U-Haul box," Weekley says in a clip shared by the PGA Tour Champions. "So here we are, cruising down the road jamming to some radio. . . . But we're having fun, just cruising around the world playing golf."
Hey, as Boo would know, being in that box is a lot better than being lowered into a tank to clean out dangerous chemicals like used to. Anyway, go get 'em, Boo.
