Tyrrell Being Tyrell

British Open 2023: Tyrrell Hatton pretends to shoot Royal Liverpool's internal OB after 18th-hole fiasco

July 21, 2023

The much-talked-about internal out of bounds on Royal Liverpool's 18th hole claimed a few more victims on Friday, including Tyrrell Hatton. And the British star—hang on, you might need to sit down for this one—was NOT pleased with the finishing par 5 after.

On Thursday, we (sort of) saw an eight from Rickie Fowler and a 10(!) from Taichi Kho, and Hatton split the difference during his second round with a niner that could cause him to miss the cut at the Open Championship.

CBS Sports' Kyle Porter was tracking this trainwreck closely on Twitter as Hatton pumped back-to-back tee shots OB before snapping his third attempt (and fifth shot) way left:

From there, things settled down a bit until Hatton holed his putt for a quadruple bogey and then pretended to shoot at the hole's internal out of bounds. Vintage Tyrrell, a guy who is never afraid to express his emotions and who pulled out his pretend gun at Augusta National last year as well:

Hey, we don't blame him. And to be fair, for the most part, Hatton kept his cool, relatively speaking, throughout the disastrous finish. Also, there are a bunch of golfers who would love to go all "Oppenheimer" on that part of the course.

Anyway, the quad dropped Hatton from two under to two over through 36 holes, and he'll now have to sweat out making it to the weekend. But if he does, we're pretty sure he'll be aiming a lot more left off the tee on 18.
