It must be fun to work for Malbon, especially around major weeks. You get to design off-beat and more out-there looks throughout the year, and then you have your very own major-winning Australian Ken doll to dress up however you like.

Over the last handful of majors, the lifestyle brand and Jason Day have routinely caught golf fans’ (and sometimes even non-golf fans’) attention from these baggy Masters pants to a sweater vest that caught the ire of Augusta National to this heavy NASCAR-esque jacket for Pinehurst No. 2. This Open Championship run may not upset the hosting club, like in majors past, but these looks are certainly different than what the average tour pro rocks at big events. We may even get an adorable little beanie that almost reaches Day’s ears.

As you can see, we were set for two days of beanies (on Thursday and Saturday), but Day seems to have switched back to his usual baseball cap look for at least the opening day of the Open Championship.

Perhaps the sun was too bright (!) and he needed a brim, or he didn’t like that the beanie didn’t make it to his ears—either way, that’s a big change for Day, Malbon and the rest of the team. We reached out to Malbon and will update on (what we're now calling) Beaniegate as soon as we can.

We're still hoping (and praying) that the close-fitting hat makes an appearance over the weekend. It’s crazy to believe that this outfit choice might've been a bridge too far for even Day.

Either way, you can Malbon it up and follow in Day's footsteps if that's something you want to do. The FW24 Collection that Day is previewing this weekend will officially drop in late August, but Malbon beanies and similar unconventional looks are just one click away.

One of the best running major bits now is the Malbon reveal for what Jason Day will be testing out. There’s always something confounding or captivating, which adds just a bit more flavor and fun to some of the best weeks in golf.
