TROON, Scotland — You like your British Open wet and wild? Well, you got it on Saturday afternoon at Royal Troon, where a steady rain created a waterlogged leaderboard at Royal Troon. By day’s end, PGA Tour veteran Billy Horschel—clad in a backward hat—emerged with the lead after a two-under 69 lifted him to four under for the championship, the first time the 37-year-old has led after any round of a major in his career. But there are 13 players within five shots of Horschel with 18 holes left to decide the Champion Golfer of the Year, creating a Sunday where any number of storylines could play out.

An eight-time PGA Tour winner, Horschel will be paired with South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence in the final twosome on Sunday, teeing off at 9:25 a.m. ET.

The good news for players (and bad for those fans who like the wet stuff): The forecast calls for only a slight chance for rain in the afternoon with the winds around 10-15 miles per hour as the round gets set to play out.

Is it the British Open or the Open Championship? The name of the final men’s major of the golf season is a subject of continued discussion. The event’s official name, as explained in this op-ed by former R&A chairman Ian Pattinson, is the Open Championship. But since many United States golf fans continue to refer to it as the British Open, and search news around the event accordingly, Golf Digest continues to utilize both names in its coverage.
