Bryson DeChambeau wears fan’s hat that blew onto the course, continues to be The Golfer of the People

    July 12, 2024

Mother Nature was huffing and puffing on Thursday at Valderrama. The windy conditions made it tricky for players during the opening round at LIV Golf Andalucia, including Tyrrell Hatton who had to back off a par putt after a gust caused his ball to move on the green. But Bryson DeChambeau—in the throes of the biggest image reclamation project since Robert Downey Jr.—was seemingly undisturbed by the blustery weather, donning the stray hat of a fan which blew onto the course in the middle of his pre-shot routine. Check it out.

The guy just can’t miss right now. It seems like just yesterday, DeChambeau was posting cringe gym videos, lecturing fans about barometric pressure and getting KO’d by gallery ropes. He was an unrelatable try-hard in the eyes of many, but somewhere along the way—thanks in part to the less bright spotlight of LIV—he found his true self, stopped forcing it and started playing his best golf to boot. Now, thanks to antics like slapping on a stray straw hat just for yucks, DeChambeau has become The Golfer of the People.

We’ll see how long that holds. Things change with the wind (ahem) in this sport, but we’re enjoying the ride while it lasts, and from the looks of things, so is DeChambeau.
