You can purchase this A.W. Tillinghast golf course in Pennsylvania for $1.1 million

The birds are chirping, the sun is out, and summer’s almost here. Isn’t it about time you own a golf course?

Odds are that you don’t have one at the moment (if you do, please reach out to me), but now’s your chance, especially if you live in the Pennsylvania area, where there’s a dang good one up for sale. That prospective course is Erie Golf Club in Erie, Pennsylvania, and it’s not just any run-of-the-mill track.

Erie Golf Club was designed by A.W. Tillinghast, the World Golf Hall of Fame architect behind Winged Foot Golf Club, San Francisco Golf Club and the Bethpage Black Course. Imagine being able to say that you own a Tillinghast. That’s rare air for sure.

Millcreek Township, which currently owns the course, is asking for sealed bids in the ballpark of $1.1 million. Bids do not necessarily have to exceed the asking price but the township may have to reassess if the number’s not hit.

“We have received numerous inquiries here at the township and I know Golf Property Analysts have received them as well,” said Jim Bock, a township supervisor. “We gave a tour of the course last week to one gentleman from out of town and he said he is definitely interested in placing a bid.”

The 160-acre, 18-hole property must stay a golf course as well. Three of the four properties that make up Erie Golf Course have deed restrictions that require the land to be used for golf, so don’t even think about turning this Tillinghast into anything else. Not that you would, of course.

If you want to put in a bid, you can do so by reaching out to Larry Hirsh at larry@golfprop.com. You have until mid-July to put the money together, just a million or so, and get the chance to own your own course. Best of luck.
