Jamie Dornan dropped a 30-foot eagle at St. Andrews in tournament play and let Rory McIlroy know about it

October 01, 2015

Today was the first day of competition at the Dunhill Links Championship. It's a cool tournament on the European Tour, where the pros' scores count individually, but each pro also has a separate score with a partner who's an amateur. They play three courses in rotation, the first round today was at the Old Course at St. Andrews.

One of the groups out there featured Jamie Dornan, you know, the star of 50 Shades of Grey. Oh, you didn't see it? Yeah... me either.

Anyway, he's playing with Peter Uihlein. The pair was eight-under for the day, five shots behind the leader. Also known as striking distance.

The highlight of Dornan's round was dropping a 30-footer for eagle on 18. Dornan's from the same town in Ireland as Rory McIlroy, and as such they know each other.

"It's a shame Rory wasn't here to see that," Dornan said about the putt after his round. "But I'll be texting him to let him know."

Here's a montage of the glorious day Dornan had in Scotland.

Here he is, staring down a drive that most certainly went 280 down the middle.

Here he is juggling his golf ball, with incredible precision and focus.
