Justin Rose loses at Match Play, still has great day in San Francisco by bumping into Stephen Curry

April 30, 2015

Justin Rose's victory interview in New Orleans on Sunday included a surprise inspiration for the Englishman: Stephen Curry. In case you didn't hear it, here's what Rose had to say about how the NBA star helped him win his seventh PGA Tour title:

"I felt like I had gone cold in my round. I started off hot, had gone cold and [my caddie] said, 'Come on, just remember Steph Curry.' He went cold, but he kept wanting the ball. He kept shooting threes. He kept believing in himself. That was our mentality."

Rose was referring to attending Game 3 of Golden State's first-round series with New Orleans. Curry struggled for much of the game, but wound up hitting a three-pointer with two seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime, where the Warriors won.

Flash forward a few days. Rose lost his first-round match to Marc Leishman, but look who he ran into while strolling the streets of San Francisco:

Curry, who happens to be a scratch golfer, confirmed that the meeting was a surprise with his own Instagram post:

"Ran into my guy Justin Rose! Crazy how some stuff happens. Came to game 3 in New Orleans last week and said we inspired his Win down there too. Great dude! Good luck at Harding Park"

What are the odds?! Rose may have lost his first match, but it looks like he gained a BFF. We'll chalk Wednesday up as a great day for the golfer.
