This 60-yard bomb from Maryland lax's Logan McNaney is one of the great goalie goals of our time

April 19, 2021

On Sunday, Maryland men’s lacrosse won their fifth Big Ten regular season title in the past seven seasons. If this were any other program or sport, we’d be screaming DYNASTYYYY from the rooftops, but it’s not, so we (and 97.3% of all readers) just learned something new. But we’re not here to talk about the what as much as the how, because the how is this 60-yard heat-seeking bunker buster that may just go down as the greatest goalie goal in the history of sport. Y’all ready for this?

That’s Terps goalie Logan McNaney from the parking lot. The play occurred early in the third quarter in a tight game with Maryland down two men. With his team’s back against the wall at a pivotal moment in the game, McNaney took matters into his own mits, flying one straight in from Flutie range. Even if you don’t know the difference between ball and stick, the reaction of McNaney’s teammates, who swarm him in celebration and disbelief, should tell you just how rare this goal was.

After the game, McNaney spoke to reporters about the moment he will literally never forget . . .

“Saw the goal open, decided to shoot.” Smart move, kid. You’re going places.
