Wyndham Clark has separated himself from the field hrough two days at the 2024 Players Championship. When it comes to a combination of stats, he's separated himself from anyone at any Players Championship.

OK, so here's where we add the caveat that the strokes-gained metric only goes back to the start of the PGA Tour's ShotLink Era in 2003. Just like Beau Hossler really didn't hit the 1,000th water ball on TPC Sawgrass' 17th hole on Friday. Still, what Clark has done through 36 holes is, technically, unprecedented.

As is often the case, we know about this thanks to stats guru Justin Ray, who revealed this mind-blowing nugget about Clark's start on Friday evening: The reigning U.S. Open champ is the only player at the Players to ever have back-to-back rounds of hitting at least 15 greens and gaining at least three strokes on the greens. That's a tough combo to beat.

But it gets even crazier. Only one other golfer, 2008 Players champ Sergio Garcia, even has two such rounds. In his entire career.

So, yeah, we're witnessing some special golf being played by Clark. And, yeah, there's a good reason why he's running away with this thing through two rounds.

As for the rest of the field? Well, they just have to hope he doesn't keep this hot historic pace going.
