Robert MacIntyre celebrated his Scottish Open win by drinking an unholy amount of whiskey out of the trophy with his dad
Last month, Robert MacIntyre won his first-ever PGA Tour event at the RBC Canadian Open with his dad Dougie filling in on the bag. The moment was special not only for the 27-year-old Scottish pro, but also his father, a greenskeeper at Glencruitten Golf Club back in Scotland, who got his very own taste of PGA Tour glory.
Though Dougie wasn’t looping for his son at the Genesis Scottish Open on Sunday, both got to sip (literally) from the charmed chalice again as MacIntye clinched his second win, this time on home soil. Afterward the father-son duo were seen celebrating together, filling the trophy with enough whiskey to take down a bull elephant.
Holy hangover, Batman. We guess when MacIntyre said that he might not be in a “fit state” to make his Monday press conference at Royal Troon, he wasn’t joking. “I don’t think I’ll legally be able to drive,” he told reporters, and if this half punch bowl full of single malt was just the pregame, we can see why.
Anyway, here’s hoping some blood pudding and strong tea gets Bob Mac back on his feet in time for the Open. On Sunday, MacIntyre became the first Scot to win the Scottish Open since Colin Montgomerie did it in 1999. He can replicate that feat at Royal Troon this week, where he has a chance to become the first Scot to win since Paul Lawrie in, you guessed it, 1999. If that happens, expect the entire country to be as hungover as MacIntyre is this morning.
