U.S. Open 2023: Watch the extremely relatable moment Scottie Scheffler decided to ditch his old driver on Friday

Scottie Scheffler is still in this thing. Heading into Saturday’s third round of the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club, Scheffler sits five back of leader Rickie Fowler. Most of us would sell a kidney to sit T-8 at major for a night, but that doesn’t mean Scheffler is satisfied with that state of his game. The 2022 Masters champion has struggled off the tee this week, which came to a head in hilarious (and relatable) fashion late Friday when Scheffler made the decision to swap his old driver for a new one with a single flick of the wrists.

Tell us how you really feel, Scottie. So far this season, Scheffler’s putter has let him down, as he entered the U.S. Open ranked 148th on tour in strokes gained/putting. If this video of him is any indication, however, the woes have now shifted to the big stick. According to Golf Digest’s Luke-Kerr Dineen, who captured the video, Scheffler will now play the weekend with a brand-new version of the same TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus+ he was seen shot-putting on Friday.

We’ll stop short of calling this a “One of Us” moment seeing as it all happened at one of the most exclusive clubs on earth and Scheffler’s fix was to swap his driver for the $600 spare he had just lying around. Still though, it's nice to see these guys look human once a while. If that isn’t the point of a U.S. Open, then what is?
