'Spanked it around': Nebraska junior am Teddy Peterson delivers post-round interview of the year

July 11, 2023

The post-round interview in golf has become one of the great "going through the motions" interviews in sports. "What worked so well for you today?" "What are you taking from today into tomorrow?" Yada, yada, yada.

Teddy Peterson is not a man who goes through the motions, though. The 18-year-old from Omaha, Ne., delivered what has to be the post-round interview of the year on Monday, fresh off a 69 that gave him a one-stroke lead in the Nebraska Junior Amateur.

"I just kind out went out there, hit some bombs, rolled a couple putts and tallied it up at the end," said Peterson at Lochland Country Club in Hastings, Ne.

Peterson's matter-of-fact manner only got better from there. When talking about his mindset heading into the round, he said he was just trying to "have fun," and that he hadn't played any golf in the three days leading up to his first-round 69.

"I just rolled out here and spanked it around for 18," he said.

"Spanked it around" will be in every golfer's vernacular by the end of this week. Amazing stuff, Teddy. Check out the full clip:

"Don't hit it out of bounds." Words to live by. Unfortunately Teddy P came back to the pack on Tuesday, shooting a two-over 74 to drop into a tie for fourth. But he's safely through the cut and will begin the final round of the 54-hole event just five off the lead on Wednesday.
