The ‘Madden 21’ covers are here and they look like they were designed with Microsoft Paint

Today is a big day in the life of a football fan. No, it’s not the start of the new league year, OTAs, training camp, or any of that super exciting stuff. It’s ‘Madden’ cover-reveal day—a nationally observed holiday where virtual football-loving nerds from across the globe can unite in universal mockery of whatever EA Sports has decided to plaster on the front of their flagship franchise. This year, however, the good folks at In The Game HQ took things a step farther, unveiling a total cover overhaul for ‘Madden 21’, and well, just see for yourself.

The best thing we can say about it is that it’s relatable. It looks like you or I could have probably thrown this together on Photoshop in an hour or two with only limited cursing. The best of the bunch is definitely the monochrome MVP Edition, elevated to OK adjacent by that little “Not bad for a running back” tag, but as you might expect, the internet still had some fun at poor little ol’ Madden’s expense.

But hey, at least the friendly people of Twitter seem to like the new gameplay footage . . . just kidding. They don’t. They really don’t.

In EA Sports’ defense, the seismic ‘Madden’ update everyone is clamoring for is probably coming next summer, when ‘Madden’ debuts on next-gen consoles like PS5 and Xbox Series X. If you can’t wait that long, however, you can pre-order ‘Madden 2021’ now or cop it when it drops August 25th on Xbox One and PS4.
