British Open 2024: The best house in golf is for sale

First-time viewers of Royal Troon will notice a palatial estate nestled among the Ayeshire links, one that—given its expansive confines—can easily be confused as a clubhouse. However, the plot is actually two private residences, called “Blackrock,” which predates the founding of Royal Troon. The houses are just steps from the second and 16th greens, offering views that will put any hospitality suite to shame.

And those on the grounds this week for the Open Championship will notice a curious marker in the yard: A “FOR SALE” sign.

Real estate agency Strutt & Parker has recently put one of the houses on the market, and we do mean “recently,” as the house is not listed on any public-facing listing or have a price. Of course, when the property last went up for sale in 2007 a Scottish newspaper suggested it would draw an offer of 3 million pounds. “One million for the house and two million to get the windows repaired every couple of days,” wrote Tam Cowan.
