U.S. Open 2023: Rickie Fowler had a classic reaction to a heckler on Friday

June 16, 2023

The USGA imposed "capacity limitations" this week at Los Angeles Country Club, meaning there are fewer fans than at a typical U.S. Open. But that doesn't mean they still can't get loud.

Phil Mickelson brushed off a heckler on Thursday and another one made himself heard on Friday afternoon—the timing could have a little something to do with it if you catch our drift—to the right of the seventh hole when tournament leader Rickie Fowler came through. Fowler found the front edge of the 299-yard par 3 (yep, you read that right) with his tee shot, but came up 15 feet short with his long birdie attempt. And when he came up short again for par, some dope blurted out, "What are you doing?!"

But as he's handled everything LACC has thrown at him so far, Fowler took this in stride as well. The five-time PGA Tour winner stepped up to his ball, turned to the fan, and shrugged before tapping in for bogey. Have a look:

Well played, Rickie. Everyone's a critic, huh? Well, it is L.A. so the guy might actually be a critic.

Anyway, that was Fowler's first three-putt of the week. And he's still leading at double digits under par. At a freaking U.S. Open! So, jeez, can you cut the guy a little slack?!
