British Open 2024: Viktor Hovland has ice cream cone delivered to him in middle of practice round, is definitely one of us

    July 17, 2024

There’s no such thing as “summer weather" in Scotland, at least to us Yanks. The forecast at Royal Troon this week calls for highs in the mid-60s with stiff winds and intermittent rain. That didn’t stop Viktor Hovland from savoring the spoils of the season, however. During his Wednesday practice round, Hovland took delivery of a mighty fine looking ice cream cone right in the middle of the 13th green despite the decidedly fall-like conditions.

We guess when you’re born and raised in Norway, Scotland might as well be Myrtle Beach. This is also the same guy who celebrated his $18-million payday at the tour championship last August with guac and chips from Chipotle, so we know nothing comes between him and his snacks.

We’ll see if the frosty treat helps him keep a cool head at the final major of 2024. It’s been a rocky year for Hovland on the course, but his game—and sweet tooth—seem to be rounding into shape at the right time. If he does find himself at the front of the pack come Sunday afternoon, perhaps we’ll see the first Claret Jug ice cream sundae in Open history. That would really be the cherry on top.
