Breaking down the numbers of Day 3 and looking ahead to Day 4 of the U.S. Open at Oakmont:

0: Official words uttered by Rory McIlroy after double-bogeying his last hole to miss the cut by two.

1: Players in the top 10 on the leader board who are also in the top-10 in fairways hit (Lee Westwood, T-3 and three strokes behind leader Shane Lowry and eighth in fairways hit). In 51 holes, Westwood has two eagles, 11 birdies, 25 pars and 13 bogeys.

1: Par saves by Dustin Johnson on a ball hit into a concession stand on the second hole in the third round.

5: Holes remaining in the third round for the final group of Dustin Johnson, Andrew Landry and Scott Piercy when play resumes at 7 a.m. ET Sunday. They are among 25 players who didn’t complete the third round Saturday night.

6: Birdies by Branden Grace in a third-round 66 that got him to one under par. Grace, as you might recall, had a chance to win last year at Chambers Bay but double-bogeyed the 16th hole in the final round and finished only two strokes behind winner Jordan Spieth.

6: Eagles in Round 2, which included 396 birdies, 1,553 pars, 686 bogeys, 118 double bogeys and 13 “others” for a field scoring average of 73.604.

20.1: Percentage of players in the second round who hit the 288-yard, par-3 eighth hole in regulation. The field averaged 3.279 strokes.

31: Low front nine in Round 2, by Louis Oosthuizen.

30: Low back nine in Round 2, by Daniel Summerhays.

65: Scores in the second round by Oosthuizen and Summerhays, the lowest at Oakmont in an Open since Loren Roberts’ third-round 64 in 1994. Said Oosthuizen, who opened with a 75: "What I learned from last year [77-66-66-67, T-2 at Chambers Bay] was to never really give up in a U.S. Open. Just grind on.”

66: Third-round score by Jason Day to get himself within six of the lead after opening the tournament with a 76. His hope for the final round: “The harder the better, like a normal U.S. Open Sunday should be."
