Chambers Bay, as you’ve probably never seen it (and likely won’t again soon)

The Seattle region is rather accustomed to precipitation — to a degree that it’s women’s soccer team is called the Seattle Reign — but only in its liquid form. Snow is an anomaly.

The average snowfall is five inches and the average number of snow days is three in the area.

So this is an unusual site, Chambers Bay, in University Place, Wash., about 40 miles southwest of Seattle, site of the 2015 U.S. Open, covered in snow:

The renowned lone fir, the only tree on the golf course, is visible in the background.

The course was closed on Friday, though the snow won’t last long and the rain has returned.
