Having recently claimed the green jacket, Danny Willett will now have an opportunity to play for a lot more green at the end of the season. On Monday, the PGA Tour announced Willett as its newest member, making him eligible for this year's FedEx Cup Playoffs -- and the $10 million bonus that goes to its winner.
Willett received 600 FedEx Cup points for his Masters victory along with 44 retroactive points from a T-22 at the Valspar Championship. Those 644 points vault him up to 27th in the FedEx Cup standings. Willett also gets a five-year exemption on the PGA Tour through the 2020-21 season thanks to his victory at Augusta National.
Willett is currently No. 1 on the European Tour's Race to Dubai, in which he finished second to Rory McIlroy last year. Henrik Stenson is the only player to win both the FedEx Cup Playoffs and the Race to Dubai in the same year (2013).
It's unclear what immediate effect this move will have on Willett's schedule going forward. But at the very least, there's now a good chance he'll be returning to Georgia in September for the Tour Championship.
