Flush Your Irons

I teach a lot of students who get hung up on what the left arm is doing. But golf is a two-armed game, and the right arm is just as important, if not more so. Here’s a drill that works great for golfers who suffer from hooking or inconsistent contact. Grip the club with your right hand and allow your left arm to hang down. Make one-arm swings so that on the downswing the club passes through the space created by your torso and left arm (above). After you get a feel for it, try hitting balls this way. The drill will train you to approach the ball on-plane and then properly release the club around to your left. Don’t be surprised by the crisp, square divots.
