World No. 1 Jason Day shot a four-under 67 in the first round of RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links in HIlton Head, S.C., on Thursday and is one shot back of Luke Donald and Branden Grace.
Day, who finished tied for 10th in the Masters last week, said he was excited to play a shorter course.
"Obviously it's always fun to come back to this place because we are just so used to long golf courses, where you have to hit driver all the time," said Day. "And this golf course doesn't necessarily take a driver out of your hands, but it makes you hit pretty much where everyone else is hitting the golf ball. And from there it's positioning on the right side of the fairways and if you do that you get to the greens and hopefully make a par."
Day is tied with Tony Finau, David Lingmerth and Matt Kuchar for third place. Day was tied with the leaders after 15, but bogeyed the 18th hole when he had to take an unplayable lie after his ball plugged underneath the lip of a bunker. Kuchar, meanwhile, is looking for his first PGA Tour win since the 2014 RBC Heritage.
Bryson DeChambeau, playing in his first PGA tournament since turning professional earlier in the week, shot a one-under 70. He is tied for 25th and four shots off the lead.
Jason Bohn, playing on the PGA Tour for the first time in two months since suffering a heart attack, shot a three-over 74 and is eight shots back of the leaders.
