JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- You don't expect to see one of this generation's best to swing and miss ... ever. Especially in a big-time event like the Presidents Cup. But that's exactly what we saw from Jordan Spieth as he was trying to pull off a big-time recovery shot on Friday with his ball was sitting in a really awkward spot on the ninth hole.
With his ball sitting down in the heavy grass surrounding a fairway bunker, Spieth had to try to pull off a hero shot. Of course, in a stroke-play event he wouldn't have went for broke like that. But in the fourball match-play setting, with he and Patrick Reed trailing the International pair of Hideki Matsuyama and Adam Hadwin, Spieth went for it, and gave us this forgettable moment for the 24-year-old star.
Spieth was caught on TV saying after: "That's actually about as bad as I could have done." Well, yeah...we can't argue that.
But 99 out of 100 humans would've suffered a similar fate. If given another chance at pulling off the shot, we have a feeling he would've been able to advance the shot.
