The Red Coats Are Coming

The Boston Celtics could not have cared less about Prince William and Princess Kate sitting courtside on Wednesday

On Wednesday night, the royal blogs were abuzz as Prince William and Princess Kate made landfall in Boston, the first stop of their first stateside trip in over eight years. Instead of a spin on the Duck Boats or an evening at the Boston Pops, however, someone thought it would be a good idea to score the couple courtside seats at the Celtics-Heat game. They looked positively thrilled about it.

If you thought Billy Boy and Kat were underwhelmed with Beantown’s local hospitality, however, just wait until you see how Celtics players felt about playing in the presence of royalty on Wednesday.

Have you ever seen two people more comprehensively unenthused about anything than Al Horford and Jaylen Brown were about the Red Coats coming to town? That’s a rhetorical question, folks. Few groups of people throughout history have had a spottier history with the British royal family than Bostonians and the Irish, and that could be heard loud and clear in TD Banknorth Garden as the couple were introduced.

If you're Will and Kate, though, you gotta look on the bright side: At least it wasn’t Philly.
