When you make 20 birdies against three bogeys in a major championship, many parts of your game are clicking. One thing, however, is a certainty: Your putter is a strength.
That was the story for Georgia Hall, the newly minted Ricoh Women’s British Open champion, who took down her first major title at Royal Lytham & St. Annes on Sunday. Hall’s Odyssey White Hot RX Rossie putter not only bailed her out at times, going seven-for-seven in sand saves, but it was the key to her making 20 birdies, including six during a final-round 67.
Hall took the lead for good when she rolled in a 20-footer for one final birdie at the 16th. The putt brought to mind a comment Hall made after the third round when she said, “I holed a lot of putts, a lot of 20-footers, as well.”
One last 20-footer on Sunday gave the home fans a lot to cheer about. And golf fans everywhere a chance to admire her stellar putting display throughout the week.
