SAN DIEGO — This is all but guaranteed: Tim Mickelson’s Farmers Insurance Open week is going to be more memorable than his brother’s.

While Phil Mickelson was playing in the first round on Thursday at Torrey Pines, shooting a one-under-par 71 on the North Course, Tim was taking time off from caddieing to celebrate the arrival of his first child. He announced on Twitter the birth of Asher Hayes Mickelson, with a sweet message: “And in an instant my life’s purpose became crystal clear.”

The photo of Asher shows him wearing an outfit that says, “Littlist Mickelson.”

According to a website that celebrated their relationship, Tim and Maranda Mickelson wed on July 24, 2020, in front of a small group of family. They had announced in June that their “wedding celebration” had to be canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Tim Mickelson, the youngest of three Mickelson children, is the former University of San Diego and Arizona State golf coach who has been on his brother’s bag since 2017, after Phil parted ways with his longtime caddie, Jim “Bones” Mackay.

With the impending arrival of the baby, Tim Mickelson was off the bag last week in The American Express, with Phil's coach, Andrew Getson, looping in a misssed cut. Getson is back as caddie this week.
