--I haven't been there yet, so I'll refrain from saying it's too hard and too expensive, but the price to play Pound Ridge Golf Club, an hour from Manhattan, is coming down: From $235 in peak season to $150 this Fall, and $100 after 2 p.m. Now might be the time (say, 2:15 p.m.?), to give the Pete Dye-design a try.

--It's no secret Vegas is struggling. As a result the MGM Grand is running the "Fall Frenzy" special (all year). From Oct.26, 2010 -- Sept. 30, 2011, they're offering rooms starting at $55 per night. Click here for more details.
