UNC-Chapel Hill Employee Forum cites 'a round of golf' as a microaggression

We’ll leave it to others to debate the state of education at our institutions of higher learning, but in this the age of the so-called microaggression, apparently nothing is immune, including golf.

The Employee Forum at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has assembled examples of different types of microaggressions that it lists in a blog post titled, “Career corner: Understanding microaggressions.”

Under the category of Class in the Social Identity Group is this example of a microaggresion: “I think we should have our staff retreat at the country club. Let’s plan a round of golf.”

And the reason it’s a microaggression? “Assumes employees have the financial resources/exposure to a fairly expensive and inaccessible sport.”

As Seinfeld’s Elaine Benes once said, “I am speechless. I am without speech.”
