Who Needs A Putter?

SUNRIVER, Ore. -- Talk about some good mojo to start a round. The threesome of D.A. Weibring, Peter Jacobsen and Bob Gilder didn't have to use a putter on the par-4 first hole at Crosswater Club in Friday's second round.

Weibring got things started by flying a pitching wedge into the hole from 115 yards for an eagle. Gilder then chipped in for par after hacking out of a severe lie in a greenside bunker. Jacobsen followed that by chipping in from 30 feet for a birdie.

Three players, one hole, no putts required.

Weibring, who used the hot start to go on and shoot a six-under 66 and get in contention after 36 holes, said he couldn't remember having such a thing happen before in a pairing he was in. Gilder and Jacobsen each carded 71 in the second round.
