Women’s PGA: Henderson shoots 67, leads by two

Canadian Brooke Henderson, 18, made five birdies and a hole-in-one in a round of four-under par 67 at Sahalee Country Club in Sammammish, Wash., to take the first round lead in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship on Thursday.

The ace came on the 152-yard par3 13th hole with a 7-iron and earned her a new Kia K900 automobile.

“It was pretty cool,” she said. “I pulled my shot a little bit and it caught the left apron and funneled right into the hole. I could hear the crowd get pretty excited and all of a sudden they kind of lost it. I experienced my fourth hole in one and it ended up being a car hole. It was a good day.”

Christina Kim and In-Kyung Kim each shot two-under par 69s and are tied for second, two shots back.

Lydia Ko, No. 1 in the Rolex Rankings, opened with an even-par 71, while Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand, in search of a fourth straight victory, shot a one-under par 70 and is tied for fourth.

Inbee Park, meanwhile, is seeking a fourth straight victory in this event and opened with a one-over par 72, while also fulfilling the qualifications for the LPGA Hall of Fame.
